Pakistan Introduces First Dematerialized Digital Identity Card

Islamabad, March 11, 2025 – In a major step towards digital transformation, Pakistan has launched its first dematerialized digital identity card, aiming to enhance online identification and security for its citizens. The initiative was unveiled by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) during its silver jubilee ceremony.
This digital identity card will enable users to access various government and financial services online without needing a physical card. The project is part of NADRA’s efforts to modernize citizen identification and align with global digital ID systems.
NADRA Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Munir Afsar stated that the initiative will revolutionize the way Pakistanis verify their identity, making processes faster, more secure, and accessible. A pilot program for the fully digital ID is set to begin on August 14, 2025.
With this launch, Pakistan joins a growing number of countries adopting digital identity solutions, helping improve service delivery, financial inclusion, and cybersecurity. This advancement marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards a paperless, digital future.
