Religious Minorities Under Threat in Pakistan: Another Tragic Killing Sparks Outrage

Peshawar: The shocking murder of Nadeem Nath, a member of the Hindu community, has raised serious concerns about religious extremism in Pakistan. According to reports, the incident took place in a local market where Nath had an argument with an unidentified individual. The situation escalated when he was allegedly pressured to convert to Islam. Upon his refusal, he was shot dead on the spot.

Following the tragic killing, Nath’s family and community members took to the streets, placing his body on the road in protest, demanding justice and greater security for religious minorities. Many members of Pakistan’s Hindu and Christian communities have expressed growing fears for their safety, citing a rise in religiously motivated violence.

This incident comes just days after a similar attack in Sheikhupura, Punjab, where a 22-year-old Christian man was brutally assaulted with a blade to his throat. Such attacks highlight the alarming increase in religious extremism, making it increasingly difficult for religious minorities to live safely in Pakistan.

Amid the growing threats, many minority community members are seeking refuge in other countries, often turning to the United Nations for asylum support. However, thousands remain stranded in countries like Thailand and Malaysia, awaiting UNHCR assistance. Human rights organizations are calling for urgent international intervention to protect Pakistan’s vulnerable religious minorities.
