Karachi Faces Water Crisis After Pipeline Leak Near University Area

Karachi – April 30, 2025:
A burst in a key water pipeline near the University of Karachi has triggered a fresh wave of water shortages across various parts of the city, leaving residents struggling to meet daily needs.
The leak occurred in one of the main supply lines that channels water from the Dhabeji pumping station to Karachi. As a result, several neighborhoods — including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Karachi, and nearby sectors — are facing reduced or completely halted water supply.
Repair crews have been sent to the affected site and are working to fix the issue. Officials estimate that the repair work may take several hours, potentially extending the water shortage through the next day.
Frustrated residents have once again raised concerns about Karachi’s aging water infrastructure, calling for urgent upgrades to prevent such incidents in the future.
To provide temporary relief, the city’s water board has announced the deployment of water tankers to severely affected areas.
