Alleged Child Abuse Incident in Peshawar Madrasa Sparks Outrage

Peshawar: An appalling incident of alleged child abuse has come to light in the Budh Bair area of Peshawar during the holy month of Ramadan. The accused, Imam Qari Akhtar Zaman, son of Akhtar Jan from Kurram, has been arrested by the police following reports of sexual abuse involving two children. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway, and the victims are receiving medical and psychological support.

Cases of child abuse in madrasas have become a recurring concern, with many incidents either being covered up or failing to receive proper attention. The lack of accountability and the influence held by certain individuals within these institutions often lead to a culture of silence. Victims and their families frequently face pressure to remain quiet, allowing perpetrators to evade justice.

Even when arrests are made, the legal process tends to be sluggish, and convictions remain rare. Activists and concerned citizens have repeatedly called for stricter oversight and protection measures to safeguard children in religious institutions.

This latest incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for reforms, ensuring that those in positions of trust are held accountable and that vulnerable children are protected from such horrific acts. The authorities’ swift action in arresting the suspect is a step forward, but many believe it is just the beginning of a much-needed systemic change.
