Blazing Meteor Streaks Across Karachi Sky, Captivating Residents

Karachi’s night sky lit up with a spectacular celestial display as a blazing meteor streaked overhead between Sunday and Monday night at exactly 2:43 AM. The rare sight left residents in awe, with many capturing the breathtaking moment on camera and sharing it across social media.
The phenomenon, known locally as “Shahab-e-Saqib,” has its roots in Arabic, where “Shahab” means burning flame and “Saqib” means piercing through. According to astronomers, meteors are fragments of asteroids that burn brightly when they enter Earth’s atmosphere, producing the dazzling glow often mistaken for “shooting stars.”
Experts explain that millions of meteors orbit Earth, and such events occur regularly, either annually or at specific intervals. NASA reports that 100 to 300 tons of space dust and rocks fall to Earth daily, though most particles are no larger than a grain of sand.
However, larger meteors are a different story. Scientists warn that asteroid collisions could have devastating consequences, making the study of these cosmic visitors crucial for planetary defense.
