Christian Worker Attacked in Sheikhupura Factory Over Blasphemy Allegation

Sheikhupura, Pakistan (March 21, 2025) – A young Christian worker was brutally attacked in a factory in Sheikhupura after allegedly being falsely accused of blasphemy.
The victim, 22-year-old Waqas Masih, was working at Subhan Allah Paper Mills in Chak No. 16, Sharqpur, when he was assaulted by his Muslim colleague, identified as Zohaib Iftikhar. The attack reportedly took place after Waqas refused to convert to Islam when questioned by Zohaib.
Religious Discrimination Led to Attack
According to Waqas’s father, Riaz Masih, his son had been facing religious discrimination at his workplace for over a month. On the day of the attack, the factory’s shift in-charge, Zohaib Iftikhar, allegedly called Waqas aside and asked whether he had embraced Islam. Upon hearing his refusal, Zohaib attacked him with a sharp blade, slashing his throat.
Waqas, who is currently in critical condition at Mayo Hospital, Lahore, managed to provide a handwritten statement before losing consciousness, confirming that he was targeted because of his faith.
Legal Action and Family’s Appeal for Justice
Following the incident, an FIR (First Information Report) has been registered, and Zohaib Iftikhar has been taken into police custody. Waqas’s family has rejected the blasphemy allegations as fabricated and malicious, demanding justice and protection for religious minorities in Pakistan.
The attack has sparked outrage among human rights activists, who are calling for stricter measures against religious intolerance and violence in workplaces.
Authorities have yet to make an official statement on the case. However, Waqas’s family and Christian community leaders are urging the government to ensure the safety of minority workers and prevent misuse of blasphemy laws for personal vendettas.
