CTD Arrests Two Terrorists in Rawalpindi Linked to Outlawed Group

Rawalpindi, March 21, 2025: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully arrested two suspected terrorists in Rawalpindi during a targeted operation. The detainees, identified as Hamza and Roman, are allegedly linked to the banned group Fitanah al-Khawarij, officials reported on Thursday.

According to CTD sources, the suspects were involved in a grenade attack on the I-9 police station. Authorities also seized explosives, detonators, safety fuses, and other materials from their possession. Initial investigations suggest the arrested individuals had ties to a key commander of the group operating from Afghanistan.

Law enforcement agencies have registered a case and launched further investigations to track down other associates of the group.

In a separate incident in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, three people were killed and nine others injured when assailants targeted the Aman (Peace) Committee office in the Uthman Zai police station jurisdiction. Police sources confirmed that eight attackers were also injured when committee members returned fire.

Additionally, on December 27, law enforcement personnel engaged in a gunfight with two armed suspects in Bannu Hayat Shah, resulting in their deaths. The suspects, identified as Ajmer and Bhutto, were brothers. A police officer sustained injuries in the exchange and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Earlier on December 25, another militant attack in Bannu claimed the life of a police officer.

These incidents underscore the persistent security challenges in the region as law enforcement agencies intensify counterterrorism operations to curb extremist activities.
