Imran Kishwar Resigns from Police Service Amid May 9 Investigations

Lahore: Imran Kishwar, head of the May 9 Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and DIG Admin Lahore, has stepped down from his position, citing personal reasons and internal conflict, Indus Examiner reported on Thursday.

In his resignation letter, Kishwar expressed that his conscience was burdened by the harsh realities he faced during his service. “I have upheld my oath with unwavering determination, often at personal expense, leaving me grappling with unresolved questions and inner turmoil,” he stated.

Kishwar further elaborated that his decision stemmed from reaching a point where continuing his service was no longer possible or desirable. “The reasons, though personal, are significant enough to sever the bond I once cherished. Loyalty, when met with indifference or betrayal, ceases to be an obligation,” he added.

PTI Leaders Re-Indicted in May 9 Cases

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) re-indicted PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, and several others in cases related to the May 9 violence. The hearing, presided over by ATC Admin Judge Manzar Ali Gul, focused on vandalism near Jinnah House.

The prosecution requested amendments to the previous indictment, leading to fresh charges against the accused. During the hearing, Qureshi, Rashid, Sanam Javed, Khadija Shah, and others rejected the allegations. The court has summoned witnesses to testify on March 6.

Former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, currently imprisoned in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, now faces additional charges in eight new cases linked to the May 9 incidents.

The developments mark a significant turn in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the May 9 events, with Kishwar’s resignation adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding situation.
