JIT Questions PTI Members Over ‘Anti-State Propaganda’ on Social Media

Islamabad: A government-formed Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has intensified its probe into alleged anti-state propaganda circulating on social media, summoning multiple Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and digital team members for questioning.

According to sources, at least 25 PTI members were called to appear before the JIT, but only a few complied. The team, led by Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police, is investigating online content deemed hostile towards state institutions, particularly the military.

Prominent figures, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Salman Akram Raja, Rauf Hassan, and Syed Firdous Shamim Naqvi, were among those summoned. The JIT aims to uncover the origins of alleged negative campaigns and determine whether they were orchestrated or influenced by external forces.

Authorities have warned that legal action may be taken against those who fail to cooperate with the investigation. The government has reiterated its stance on curbing digital misinformation and ensuring accountability for content that threatens national security.

The inquiry has sparked a heated debate, with PTI members calling it a political crackdown on free speech, while officials maintain it is a necessary step to combat disinformation.
