Pakistan Railways Boosts Security Measures Following Train Hijacking Incident

Islamabad – April 2025:
In the wake of the recent hijacking of the Jaffar Express in Balochistan, Pakistan Railways has significantly upgraded its security protocols to safeguard passengers and critical infrastructure across the country.

To reinforce safety, particularly on routes operating through Balochistan, each train is now accompanied by a contingent of 22 security personnel. This team includes officials from both the Railway Police and the Frontier Corps, ensuring a stronger presence on board.

Authorities have also deployed additional police personnel from Multan and Karachi divisions to support operations in the Quetta division. Around 50 officers have been assigned to key installations in the region, aiming to deter any further threats.

Security has been heightened at all railway stations nationwide. Measures include strict passenger screening, vehicle checks at station premises, and closer monitoring of entry and exit points. Surveillance systems are being upgraded, with plans to integrate advanced technologies such as CCTV networks and drones for real-time monitoring.

Infrastructure improvements are also underway. Quetta Railway Station will be fenced for added protection, and repair work on tracks damaged during the hijacking will begin once the area is declared secure.

Additionally, Pakistan Railways has acknowledged the need for more trained personnel and is launching a recruitment drive. In the first phase, 200 to 300 new security staff will be hired, with approval being sought to recruit 500 more.

These enhanced measures are part of a broader strategy to rebuild public trust and ensure a safer travel experience across the national railway network
