Peace Push in Kurram: Nearly 1,000 Bunkers Removed in Two Months

Kurram, April 2025 – In a major push to restore peace and order, authorities in Kurram District have demolished close to 1,000 bunkers in the span of just two months. The action follows a recent peace understanding aimed at ending tribal hostilities that have long disrupted life in the region.

The initiative was launched in early January 2025 after tribal elders and government officials came together to address growing tensions. Decades-old land and sectarian disputes had reached a boiling point in late 2024, leading to a spike in violence and instability.

Security officials confirmed that the bunkers—many of which were used during local clashes—have been dismantled as part of confidence-building measures agreed upon by all parties. “This is not just a demolition drive; it’s a step towards healing and rebuilding,” said a senior local administrator.

To ensure the progress continues, plans are also in motion to deploy dedicated security units along key routes, especially the volatile Kurram Road. The provincial government has committed new resources, including hundreds of trained personnel and security checkposts, to secure the area and prevent future flare-ups.

Local residents have cautiously welcomed the efforts, expressing hope that life will return to normal and that the younger generation can grow up free from conflict.

While challenges remain, the scale and speed of the demolition operation signal a renewed resolve among local leaders to turn the page on violence and focus on peace.
