Punjab Bans New Car Wash Stations Amid Growing Water Crisis

Lahore – April 6, 2025: In a decisive move to address the province’s escalating water scarcity, the Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on the establishment of new car wash stations.

The decision comes as part of a broader water conservation effort and in accordance with directives from the Lahore High Court. Authorities have also mandated that all existing service stations must install water recycling systems by February 28, 2025. Failure to comply could result in fines of up to Rs100,000, and violators risk having their premises sealed.

Additionally, the government has outlawed the use of hosepipes for washing vehicles at home. Individuals found violating this order will face a penalty of Rs10,000.

These measures are being implemented under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act of 1997 and aim to curb the misuse of clean water resources amid growing environmental concerns.
