Shocking Development in Jaranwala Tragedy Case: Justice at Risk?

Case FIR No. 1272 and 1273 Presented in Anti-Terrorism Court
Lahore – The cases related to the Jaranwala tragedy, FIR numbers 1272 and 1273, were presented for a hearing in the Anti-Terrorism Court. According to details, FIR 1272 includes 150 accused, while FIR 1273 names 84 accused. However, the progress in the case remains questionable as out of 150 accused in FIR 1272, only one arrest has been made, whereas in FIR 1273, only two suspects have been arrested so far.

Legal Expert Warns of Weakening Case
Prominent High Court Advocate Rana Zahid has expressed concerns over the slow pace of arrests. He stated that according to the law, if the remaining accused are not arrested and sent to jail, and the investigation report (173) is not submitted, the case will weaken. If authorities proceed with the trial against just one accused, there is a high possibility that the entire case could be dismissed, impacting the pursuit of justice.

Furthermore, in FIR 1273, which includes 84 accused, the investigating officer (IO) has not presented any evidence against 82 individuals in court. Rana Zahid suggested that rather than delaying the case through ineffective procedures, it would be better to dismiss the case or conduct a fresh and fair investigation from the beginning.

Social Activist Accuses Authorities of Case Suppression
Renowned social activist Lala Roban has raised serious allegations against the government and law enforcement agencies. He claimed that efforts are being made to bury the case and that both the courts and agencies seem to be working towards its dismissal. Expressing his frustration, he questioned, “Where should we seek justice?”

It is worth mentioning that two years have passed since the tragic Jaranwala incident, and similar past tragedies were also systematically dismissed using delay tactics. The same strategy appears to be at play once again, raising concerns over whether justice will ever be served.

Stay tuned for further updates.
